A hitch in one's step

Hey,

what does it mean when someone has a hitch in their step?

Since the context is that someone walks with a limp I guess "having a hitch in one's step" goes somewhere along the same lines, but maybe not as strong in intensity as "walking with a limp".

What do you think?

I agree - it is more like an extra lift of the leg when moving the foot forward, whereas a limp is taking a shorter step because one leg/foot gives pain under weight.
