    Default Avoiding repetition

    Hello my friends.

Could someone please tell me which answer is correct and why?

    1. You look awful. Why don't you see a doctor?
I.........He just gave me some pills and told me to take things easy.
    Did , Have ?

    2. My boyfriend insists on doing all the cooking, but I wish he .........it's inedible!
    Didn't , wouldn't ?

3.Andy got drunk at Anne's party and started insulting everyone.
He .............! That's so typical. He's always doing that.
    would

    1. "did" (if "Why haven't you seen a doctor?" then, "I have.......")
    2. "wouldn't" (if "insisted", then "didn't" and "it was inedible")
    3. "would" is OK (used as an expression of expectation)

    Thank you.

For number one My guess was 'did' but the answer in the book is ' have'

Look out for a GB/US distinction here. I wouldn't say that 'have' is the only (Br Eng) possible response, but it's certainly acceptable - as an elided form of 'I have done'.
