In the sentence, does 'can't' mean 'aren't able to' or 'shouldn't'.
I am trying to translate this sentence correctly and would appreciate it very much if anyone could make it clear for me. Sorry there is no context. It's an example from a dictionary.
It could convey either meaning. It is impossible to tell without more context - even then, the intended meaning may not be absolutely clear. A careful writer/speaker would use another word/phrase.
