Dear teachers,
I am confused by the word "Fry" after I have looked it up into an online dictionary in China.
Here is the example sentence from the online dictionary:
The eggs are frying in the pan.
Can the word "fry" be used in this way?
Is it correct if I changed the sentence this way:
The eggs are being fried in the pan.
thanks
Kitty
Hi Kitty,
That sentence is fine.
So is "The cake is baking in the oven" and so is "The butter is melting in the sun."
I don't know if you want to go any further, but if you look up "ergative" or "middle voice" you can learn more.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
It can be either transitive or intransitive.
