Sentences 2 and 4 are correct.

I don't know many people who have "free" internet in their houses.

Thanks for the answer but I'm wondering why 2 and 4 are correct. I was taught when we use the word "Internet" it is preceded by 'the'.

When we say we have "internet" in our house, we mean that we have internet service. So "internet" here is an adjective.

We have access to the internet, but we do not have "the internet" in our houses.

Whilst I agree with you that I do not have the whole of the internet in my house, I must point out that in BrE, we tend to say "Do you have the net at home?" and "I'm finally getting the net in my flat on Friday". I would say "Do you have internet access?" but never "Do you have internet?"

I was very unhappy when I got home from work today to discover that I'd lost the net.
