I was referring only to the instruction to queue on a specific side of a stop!

In Aus, it's customary to walk on the left (your left - just as one drives here), and pass people on the left on sidewalks, in malls. If two people are walking towards each other and in danger of collision, eg. through a doorway, they both move to the left (ceteris paribus).

My mother claims to have noticed in her town in the UK that when two people are walking towards each other, they always seem to move to the right to pass. That is the opposite of what happens in Australia even though we too drive on the left.

I would expect people to dodge other people while walking the same way that they drive. It's certainly my experience here that we go right.

I often find myself pavement dancing with people approaching me on the (AE) sidewalk.
