I quickly skimmed all the posts in this thread and think that no one mentioned something that learners may wish to know: Here in the United States, most people prefer the word "server" instead of the female "waitress" and male "waiter."

One wouldn't typically use tense at all. It's not really a question that demands an answer so much as an offer that demands to be accepted/rejected.
