Is it correct to say buildings have "carbon footprint"?

Is this correct?

As a civil engineer, I try to design buildings in such a way that their carbon footprint is as low as possible.

That's fine.

Again, I would say as small as possible. Not that I would ever say that.

An architect designs a building, not a civil engineer. A civil engineer designs the structural and civil works associated with a building. An environmentally-friendly building is called a green building.
