Hello,
During their official bilateral talks held today in Ankara, Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu, Prime Minister of Turkey and Mr. Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation vis-à-vis counterterrorism, preventing terrorist financing and handling threats from foreign combatants.
Turkey is in the front line of the fight against the DAESH and plays a crucial role in these efforts. Australia appreciates Turkey’s efforts to enhance its border control and to prevent the people who intend to join the DAESH. Both sides highlighted that locating and stopping foreign terrorist combatants in source countries prior to their journey to engagement areas is a high priority. Given that 100 Australian citizens fight for the DAESH and other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria and that a person who attempted to bring violence to Australia was arrested in Melbourne this week, Australia will continue to do its best to stop foreign combatants.
