Hi! Can you say „had to make a turn back”? Is it gramatically correct?

My English teacher said that this sentence is not gramatically correct. The problem is if you can say „turn back” because „make a turn” itself means to return back to the place that you came from.

make a turn” itself means to return back to the place that you came from.
It doesn't.
Note the correct way of positioning quotation marks in English: "make a turn”.
Return back is tautologous. Use either go back or return.

Welcome to the forum, yeonnie. :D

"I had to go back" is possible. However, I wouldn't use "turn back" (as noted in #4).

Can you I/we say "Had to make a turn back”? Is it grammatically correct?
My English teacher said that this sentence is not grammatically correct. The problem question is if whether you I/we can say "turn back”, because "make a turn” itself means to return back to the place that you came from.

Note my corrections above.

When you make a turn you change directions. You don't go back to where you started.

You can use 'turn back' as a phrasal verb, like this:

The road became too dangerous so we had to turn back.

In future, please give us at least one whole sentence that includes the word you want to ask about.
