The meaning is: 'He usually smiles when he sees me, but, this time, he didn't'.

Do I say...
-...'He didn't smile as usual'? (I have a feeling this might become confusing, since it might mean that he never smiles and this was the case this time too)
-...'He didn't smile, unlike usual'? (Is 'unlike usual' the opposite of 'as usual'? Logically, it must be, but is it natural?)
-...something else?

Re: How do I convey this?

He usually smiles when he sees me, but this time, he didn't.
or
He didn't smile when he saw me, which he usually does.

The thing is that the fact that he usually does this is supposed to be already known by this point, so it will sound weird if I state it again. That's why I need something less wordy here. Any more ideas?

the fact that he usually does this is supposed to be already known by this point,
Try:
This time, he didn't smile at me.

Please note that I have improved your thread title.

: 'He usually smiles when he sees me, but, this time, he didn't'.

Either that or:

He usually smiles when he sees me, although this time he didn't.
