Hello

I would like to know if the sentence: "I guess I'm starting to love someone" means that I am loving someone for the first time or not necessarily.

In the case of this line from a song, I want to express that I'm starting to love someone (my son), but it's not necessarily the first person I loved.

The idea of the sentence is to have a poetic touch, as I am sure of the feeling of love for him.

I would appreciate it if someone can clarify.

rules I don't know why this word is here at all.
Are you writing that song? Why not make it clear you're talking about your son? If you change the line to "I guess I'm starting to love my son", you'll have the same number of syllables and the meaning will be clear.

Hello, emsr2d2!

Thanks for your reply.

I thought the same thing, but I don't want to make it clear who the music was made for. Maybe I'll change it and put it in context.

As for the original line, is it wrong to say: " I guess I'm starting to love someone"?

"I guess I'm starting to love my son" indicates that you didn't love him before. Is that what you mean to say?

You might try something like: "I love my son. He is the light of my life."

He was about to be born, so "I guess I'm starting to love my son" would fit.

How about the original line?

The OP doesn't say he hadn't been born yet.

"I'm starting to love my son" introduces a new concept to me, and I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean. I suggested "I love my son. He is the light of my life" as one possibility.

To be honest, if you're writing a song, the lines don't have to be grammatically correct or make sense. The music world is full of completely incomprehensible lyrics.
