Kate parked her car and stepped inside the hospital. Her mother writhed in pain in her last minutes. From that day, an image remained etched in a dark recess of Kate's mind: Her father, stared at Kate with desperate eyes, hopelessly trying to reassure her as her mother was succumbing to leukemia. At times, the image would bubble up to surface and linger as she tried to fall asleep or focus on a text. There existed in her psyche a black hole, never allowing her to feel complete.
