listen to/hear a few new CDs

#2 is more natural than #1 for me. We listen to music/CDs/records.

I would use 'hear' with a question though.

Have you heard this new CD/Have you heard the new XYZ CD yet?

How about "Have you heard that song everyone's listening to?"

That works.

"Hear" usually suggests an accidental experience but "listen [to]" suggests that it was done on purpose.

I heard that song on the radio yesterday.
Last night, my friend and I listened to the new Kaiser Chiefs album.

When I woke up this morning, I could hear the birds singing.
This morning, I sat in the garden and listened to the birds singing.
