1) He married her at the age of twenty two.

Can one tell who was twenty two at the time of marriage, he or she?

I think there is another possibility: 'he' is the father and he marries his daughter (i.e. 'her') when she is twenty two.

As is often the case, I am trying to figure out if the sentence is ambiguous or not. Obviously, context will clarify things.

There's no way of telling who is 22 in that sentence.

It could be 'he', 'her' or the licensed marriage celebrant (not 'her father', as a man can't marry his daughter.}

NOTE: If you have a reason to write ‘twenty-two’ rather than ‘22’, it needs a hyphen.
