What does "mans" mean? An informal word referring to a strong boy?

Plus, what does "I know" mean? Does it mean "I know (it was improper at such a place as the local drive-in)"?

=======================
...when I was hooking up with my high school mans in the back of his car at our local drive-in (I know, but it's true).

It's impossible to tell what that person means by that without much more context.

Absent any other context, I would assume it was a typo and should have been "man", meaning "my high school boyfriend".

It could be a slang word, though it's not in UrbanDictionary.

I read "I know" as short for "I know it sounds crazy."

The "mans" doesn't make sense to me. Maybe the writer meant man. Maybe it's short for romance. Maybe anything. We need to know more.

Hm. I seem to have achieved a state of perfect notgettingitness.

You aren't the only one.

That definition doesn't seem to fit the quote anyway. From the context I suspect that it was meant as a contraction of romance and was intended to be pronounced with a soft "s" .

I take it as slang, like some African Americans will refer to their "moms" in the plural. I have not heard "mans" before, but it follows logically.

Do not imitate.

And a long-time favorite (if insulting) word to call old men is Pops. I hope no one ever calls me mans.
