Hello, so i was wondering which choice is more correct in the following sentence:
To my amazement, it was the same person who (stole/had stolen) my phone only half an hour before.

Thank you in advance

The past perfect is ideal here, so use it.

Hello. [STRIKE]so[/STRIKE] I was wondering which choice is more correct in the following sentence:

To my amazement, it was the same person who (stole/had stolen) my phone only half an hour before.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Please note my corrections above. Even though you'll hear many native speakers inexplicably start sentences with "So", it's almost always unnecessary. Always capitalise the word "I" (first person singular pronoun). End every sentence with one, appropriate closing punctuation mark.
