snow-shoeing
n.
the action or practice of travelling on snow-shoes, esp. as an exercise or sport; also attributive.

-------
What is the difference between 'action' and 'practice' here?

This refers to actual steps/operation. For example:
We made good progress that day, snowshoeing our way across that vast wilderness.

This refers to the activity in general. For example:
Snowshoeing has become popular over the past couple of years.

By the way, can you please provide a link to the definition you quoted in your post?

Did the dictionary definitions not help you?
I can't decide which definition of 'practice' can be applied. :-?
I just look up words with simple and few definitions in the dictionary.

By the way, can you please provide a link to the definition you quoted in your post?
The Oxford English Dictionary online needs a subscription for access, so I will give you a screenshot instead. :)
