Hello everybody!

I would like to ask you about the meaning of "to put someone in a position to do something".

I made up my own sentence to illustrate the usage of "to put someone in a position to do something".

In order to put his son in a position to understand the beautiful nature, he used to take me to the beach and show me beautiful sunrises early in the morning.

Does "to put someone in a position to do something" mean "to enable someone to do something" or "to make it possible for someone to do something"?

Please answer my question. I am very eager to know the answer. The phrase is, I think, relatively rarely used.
