I'm totally stumped by this synthesis question: We managed to free ourselves and escaped.

Instruction: Start with 'We' and end with 'and escaped', however the word 'in' (can be positioned anywhere) must be used in the new sentence :roll:

We ______________________________________ and escaped.

I suspect that the question aims at testing the use of phrasal verbs in place of a word/words in the original sentence. However, I'm unsure. I can't even come up with a remotely plausible answer :-(
