Among that group, 4% suffer from depression.
Among that group, 4% suffer depression.

Are both 'suffer from depression' and 'suffer depression' correct English and do they have the same meaning?
How does the sentence 'Lindros was hit in his jaw and mouth, and again suffered headaches and other symptoms' (from NEW YORK TIMES) sound to native speakers?

And how about 'nutrition' after 'suffer from' and 'suffer'?

Thank you in advance.

To me suffer from depression is more like be ill with and suffer depression is more like endure/ be on the receiving end.
Nutrition- suffer from malnutrition
