A student came to school late because there's a lot of traffic. I was wondering if the following replies are natural.

Teacher: Why are you late, Paul?
1. Student Paul: Because too much traffic.
2. Student Paul: Because of traffic congestion.
3. Student Paul: Because of traffic jam.

Thanks.

Only #2 reads well.

I'd say 'The traffic was horrendous' or something similar.

I agree with Rover, but #3 also works if it is amended to "Because of a traffic jam."

Or "Because of traffic jams" if you got caught in more than one.

I saw some people use "too much traffic". How do we say if we use ""too much traffic"?

Thanks.

"There was too much traffic". However, in the context you suggested, the student would say "Because there was so much traffic".
