Hi.

I wrote a sentence describing the control of the COVID about Xinjiang. I wrote "Because it's close to the border and neighbored with many other countries, Xin Jiang has a more severe control policies of the spread of COVID-19 than other cities of China".

Please help me with the sentence.

How about " close to the border which is shared with many countries" and "stricter controls to curb the spread of..."?

Don't you think that's more awkward than the concise version above?

"Strict" does not convey the same meaning as "severe". I think Silverobama's phrasing is fine.

You could say:

- Because it's close to the borders of many other countries . . . .

- Because it borders many other countries . . . .

- Because it's the neighbor of many other countries . . . .

Don't use forms of both border and neighbor. It gets redundant. Use one or the other.
