What is "Ocho"?

for example:
"What are you smoking, Ocho?"

Not A Teacher

I do not think this word "Ocho" is an English word, it is either a persons name or a word borrowed from another language.

In what context did you encounter the word?

And we're back
here on Sports View,

00:04:56,963 --> 00:05:00,388
with my special guest,
Chad Ochocinco.

00:05:00,550 --> 00:05:03,178
Chad, which college
football powerhouse

00:05:03,345 --> 00:05:06,098
is gonna have the most players
drafted in this year's draft?

00:05:06,264 --> 00:05:09,188
I'm gonna have to go with my
alma mater, the Oregon State.

00:05:09,351 --> 00:05:12,571
Come on, man!
What are you smoking, Ocho?

00:05:12,729 --> 00:05:14,481
You think I don't know
what I'm talking about?

00:05:14,564 --> 00:05:16,737
Do me a favor,
take a look at the tape.

"Ocho" is Spanish for "eight." This person, Chad Johnson, was an NFL (American) football player, who wore number 85. Somewhere along the way he decided to change his name to "Ochocinco," which is bilingual-illiterate Spanish for "eight five."

(HE should have called himself "ochenta-y-cinco" if he meant "eighty-five," but he wasn't hired for his brains.)

This interviewer is calling him "Ocho" for short.

The guest's name is Chad Ochocinco. Ocho is one of Chad's nicknames.

The host is being playful. He's telling Ocho that he must be on drugs to say what he said:

"What are you, high, man? What are you on, Ocho?"

This is very ordinary American banter - not slang, exactly, but slangy.

We use What are you/have you been smoking? and many variations on the theme in BrE in the same way to express surprise, disbelief, incredulity, etc.
