I'd like to ask about meaning these:

1. And how's it been with you and Jack?
We rub along OK.
Not rub each other up the wrong way?

2. I'm a glass half-full kind of girl.

3. I thought Australia would be nice (to fly there). But then I thought afterwards, what about my carbon footprint?

She has an optimistic nature.

An optimist has been defined as a person who sees a half-glass of water as being half full, a pessimist as one who sees it as half empty.

Carbon footprint refers to how much greenhouse gas production are you responsible for. She is wondering what the environmental impact of her flight would be.

It's not common, but it is heard in BrE.

"We rub each other the wrong way." Or, "Jack rubs me the wrong way." Up should not be included. In AmE, perhaps. 'Up' is part of the BrE expression.

So, just to make sure I get this,

When someone irritates you, in the US and Canada, we say "He rubs me the wrong way" but in the UK, you'd say "He rubs me up the wrong way"?
