dear all in theses sentences 1)Dudley, who was so large his bottom drooped over either side of the kitchen chair, grinned and turned to Harry. what is the meaning of grinned 2)Uncle Vernon sat back down, breathing like a winded rhinoceros and watching Harry closely out of the corners of his small, sharp eyes. what is the meaning of watching harry closely out (why they use out) 3)He missed Hogwarts so much it was like having a constant stomachache. He missed the castle, with its secret passageways and ghosts, his classes (though perhaps not Snape, the Potions master), the mail arriving by owl, eating banquets in the Great Hall, sleep- ing in his four-poster bed in the tower dormitory, visiting the gamekeeper, why they use ing in eat arrive.. 4)At the age of one year old, Harry had somehow survived a curse from the greatest Dark sorcerer of all time, Lord Voldemort, whose name most witches and wizards still feared to speak. Harry’s par- ents had died in Voldemort’s attack, but Harry had escaped with his lightning scar, and somehow — nobody understood why — Voldemort’s powers had been destroyed the instant he had failed to kill Harry. why they use past perfect (had survived) not paste simple what is the difference between them thank you

Hi Adel,
Been reading Harry Potter? Ok, let me try to explain.
Grin means smile,
watching closely out means that he was minding what Harry was doing-
watch out mens pay attention- it is a phrasal verb, so there is no answer to the question why out- it is just the way it is.
Your other question, why -ing form - is because those were things Harry was doing every day for many years- so continually.
And your last question, why past perfect, did you notice that sentence Number 3 is about Harry that MISSED the castle.?
What happened to his family and him took place before Harry went to Hogwarts, so everything in the very past ,must be written in Past Perfect.
I hope I have helped you.
