Hi,
I heard this term "Jersey girl" on TV show a couple time. Not sure which one. but, besides the girl is from New Jersey, is there any special meaning behind it?
Just wondering. Thanks!

Hello, Philau.
(1) As I type this, no one else has answered, so may I start?
(2) I went on the Internet and found out that
Jersey Girl refers
to some girls born and raised in the state of New Jersey. A
Jersey Girl
is said to:
love pizza
love beer
have beautiful hair
have a mouth on her. (That is, she is not shy. She tells you what
she thinks.)
(a) In English, we have the word
stereotype. That means that we say
people in group X act this way. For example, there is a stereotype that
all the people in group X are good at mathematics. Of course, that is not
true. Some are and some aren't. Well,
Jersey Girl is a stereotype. Not
all girls born in New Jersey love beer or have a mouth on them!!!

We also have the term
Valley Girl. The stereotype says that she:
lives in California (in the Los Angeles area)
gets anything she wants from her parents
spends a lot of time at the shopping mall
does not get very good marks at school
is always saying words such as:
like
oh my god
whatever
totally
This is, of course, a stereotype. Many girls in California speak
good English and are very intelligent.

In your country, do you also have stereotypes? For example, do you
say that all the people in area X are good or bad or stupid or
smart? That is a stereotype, because -- of course -- NOT all the people
in area X are good or bad or stupid or smart.

Let's hope that a Jersey or Valley Girl answers you.
Thank you
