The more... the smaller

I need to make sure that the following sentence is correct. Especially the part after the colon - is it OK as it is or should there be some IS in it?

"The same tyre behaves differently on different soils: the more yielding and wet the soil, the smaller the diffusion of the specific pressure to sides and the greater the depth of the pressure effect."

Gillnetter, thanks a lot for your help. Actually, the pressure we speak of is not referring to the tyres, it is the pressure transmitted to soil - the whole paper is about soil compaction under forest machinery tyres.
