1) How should I describe one's face become red while getting drunk?

2) I know I can make a sentence like, "I dropped my cup on the floor in
the sitting room."

a) But, can I say, " I dropped my cup on the floor in the playground."?

b) Is "floor" only used to describe indoor envoirnment?

c) Are 'floor' and 'ground' interchangeable in usage ?

Hi,

1. My face reddened as I was getting drunk.

2a. No
2b. Essentially yes, although you can have a floor in say a car/aircraft/ship and these are not normally described as having an 'indoors'
2c. Not usually since 'floor' implies inside and 'ground' implies outside.

The only possible exception I can see to 2c - and it's stretching it a bit, is if you were to drop a cup whilst inside a tent which had a sewn in groundsheet. You might conceivably then use either floor or ground.

I thought "flush" is the right word here!

Flush is not necessarily the wrong word although in the context of getting drunk it's somewhat lightweight and reddened I would maintain is the much better word.

Flush is something that maidens or my giddy aunt might do when embarrassed by some social mishap.

I see... speaking about this, which is more common among native speakers regarding any embarrassing situations "flush or "blush"?

Hi,

I think blush is much more common, certainly in the UK, but I'll be interested to see other observations.

I associate "blush" only with embarrassment. If I've exercised, have been in the cold, have a fever, or have been drinking, I'm flushed.
That works for me - a speaker of BrE.
