I have two questions.
1. I wonder why Hammie think she can hardly get her arms around Daddy's tummy anymore.
2. I would like to know the meaning of the next sentence.
Parents grow out so fast!

Hammie is the boy. (Short for "Hamilton.")

1. She hugged him as he was leaving for work. That's how she knows.

2. The normal expression is for parents to say "kids grow up so fast."

1. grow up
2. grow out

#1 means "to become an adult," but does #2 too?

No. Children grow up; adults grow out(wards) or fat.

Also, most children grow out of habits like sucking their thumbs.

They also cost their parents a lot of money when they grow out of clothes.

And when they get a bit older and dye their hair in garish colours, fortunately that grows out as well. ;-)
