If you remind someone else of something, you are helping them to find a memory which is already held in their brain and make them think about it. I remember my holiday in Spain = I went on holiday to Spain, I have a memory of it and I am thinking about that memory. I reminded him of his holiday in Spain = He went on holiday to Spain, he has a memory of it and I helped him to think about that memory.

'recordar' means both 'remember' and 'remind'. That must be confusing.
