ATM took my card

I wanted to get / take money out of an ATM but the machine took my card.
I have 2 questions.
1) Are both of the verbs (get and take) ok?
2) Can we use another verb instead of took? (like ate)

1. Yes, but I would probably say that I wanted to get money from or at an ATM.
2. Yes, I would say it ate my card.

Most people I know say 'it swallowed my card'.
