Do the two both work or does only one work? 1 is rarely heard.

ex1)I will stay home
ex2)I will stay at home.

#1 is quite common and perhaps a little more informal than #2.

#2 is more common in BrE but #1 is certainly used.

Note that it only works with "[at] home", ie we don't say "I will stay work" or "I will stay the bar".

I agree with Mister Micawber that it is quite common, and I think it is getting used more and more.
