[Grammar] "Make up"

As I did homework, I saw this sentence, 'Make up 5 English sentences', but I think it should be 'Make 5 English

sentences or is there a particular reason 'make up' was used in it? Thank you as always and I really hope to hear

Here, "make up" stresses that you should invent or compose the sentences from your own imagination.
For example:
"I had no excuse for missing school so I had to make up a story to tell the teacher".
"If you don't know the answer, just make up something that sounds plausible".
Perhaps they are saying that they don't want you to just copy the sentences from somewhere.
