Hi teachers,

I want to know how to use 'keep' in the following sentence.

(1)The door keeps closed.
(2)The door keeps closing.

Which is the correct one? The reasons?
Thanks in advance.

What do you want to say exactly? As Chicken Sandwich said #1 is wrong, but if you want to say that the door doesn't open, you could say "The door stays closed".

The door is closed for the whole day.
I just want to express this continuous condition.
By the way, thank Chicken Sandwich for your reply. It is clean now.

If you mean that the door is closed for the entire day, then say that the door is kept closed. Or the door remained closed.

"The door keeps closing" means that you are trying to keep the door open, but it closes by itself. Like you were trying to prop it open, but the door stop was insufficient for the task.

Thank you so much.
I understand now.
