Do names of school subjects need to begin with capitals? In our country, even teachers capitalize names of subjects other than languages such as English. I think that English is capitalized as it is ths name of a language. But I don't think other subject names should be capitalized, mathematics, geography and history, for example.

You are right.

I prefer to see them capitalised. It's normally done, at least in Aus.

At university level, they're more likely to be capitalised in BrE, I think.

They were capitalised throughout my school life. My daily timetable consisted of English, Maths, Music, Geography, History, double Science and finally PE.

I took my Geography 'O' Level exam on a Wednesday.
I failed my Maths exam.
I got an A in English Language and English Literature.
