English language functions

Hi all,
Just going through the CELTA pre-interview task. There are questions on language functions and thei labels. Although it seems pretty straightforward this is not something I was taught when learning English. Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of all the function labels and recommend a good book to read on the subject?
