Sweetie Vss. Cutie

Hello teachers,

I know that a boy can address his girlfriend Sweetie but what about the girl? Can she also address her boy friend Sweetie or only a boy can say like that?

Is it ok to use Cutie between boyfriend and girlfriend or it's childish?

I don't know whether there is a differnce between Cutie and Sweetie or not. As far as I know they are both used among lovers. Correct me if I am not right.

There is no discernible difference between these (and many other) terms of endearment. Both sexes can use the terms towards their partner, regardless of the sex of the partner. Many boys and girls (and men and women) have special endearments for their partners.

'Sweetie' (and 'lovey') are also used by adults talking to children.

The point here is that vs. seems to me the only appropriate abbreviation to be used in this case. While I was reading this, I learned that v. can't be used here. It is used and I quote:

"in legal and related use, opposing sports teams, maybe political battles even."

I am not sure, though. And as always, I would appreciate your comment in this regard. It is important to me to learn something new every day.
