The forms AmE and BrE are used by many British grammarians. Like other common short forms, such as TEFL and CELTA, they appear in this forum with faint dots under them. This means that if you hover your pointer (or whatever you call it) over them, the full form will appear on your screen.The abbreviations are not used in speech, only in writing, and as far as I know only on this site.
