Dear Teacher,
I am confused on the usage of the plural form of verb "to be" underlined in the following sentence. Why "are" is used here? Thanks and regards.
Are lack of math skills from high school one of the barriers that keep people from pursuing STEM degrees?
Note:
Here is an example that shows otherwise:
"Lack of skills is a serious problem for companies."
