Hello all members!

Our cat has a habit of jumping onto the table and walking on it from time to time.

I know how to express someone's displeasure at walking on the table. This table is not a good place for walking on = it is not good/right to walk on the table = this table has not been made / is not used for walking on.

Is it right for me to say "This table is not a good place for walking on"?

Suppose we are talking about a cat on the table.

Is it possible for me to say "This table is not a good place for a cat to walk on" meaning "It is inadvisable for a cat to walk on the table".

Thank you.

They're all rather formal. How about "Cats shouldn't be allowed on tables". It's not a case of a table not being a good location for the cat. I'm sure the cat is quite happy with it. I imagine it is you who objects to the cat being on the table.

Not only that, but I doubt the cat will take much notice however you express it.

You may be right about that, Ray. When I say "What are you doing on the table?" to mine, they rarely respond.

If one owns cats one needs to get used to cats being on tables. Otherwise, get an elephant.

Once you accept that dog hair or cat hair is simply a condiment to your meals, your life gets easier.

Is it OK for cats to walk on elephants?

With the elephant's permission, it is fine. My cats often walked on my Labrador Retriever. ;-)
