Have you eaten your dinner?

Have you taken your dinner?

According to a friend of mine, the first sentence is British English, while the second is American English. Is she correct?

Thanks.

No. In the U.S., we eat meals and snacks.

The only exception I can think of is that we take coffee breaks. But that's because we take breaks generally - coffee there is just an adjective describing the kind of break.

I am not a teacher.

It depends who you're talking to, but I think, 'Have you had (your) dinner?' would be more common in BrE.
