Which of the following five sentences are grammatically correct ?
I think only (5) is incorrect.

(1) The rumor that all the passengers were saved proved to be true.
(2) The rumor that all the passengers were saved has proved to be true.
(3) The rumor that all the passengers had been saved proved to be true.
(4) The rumor that all the passengers have been saved has proved to be true.
(5) The rumor that all the passengers have been saved proved to be true.

Thanks in advance.

I would choose No. 3.

The rumour came before it was proven true, so the rumour part should be in past perfect.
