I know it is correct to say 'to attend/go to a dinner party or a birthday party.'

But as a non-native speaker of English, I am hoping to know whether it is also correct and natural to say 'to join a dinner party or a birthday party.' Thank you so much.

If someone walks into a bar or restaurant and runs into a friend who is having a birthday party or a dinner party, "May I join your..." might work.
