How does one transition from the r sound to the flap t sound?

In American English, I find it hard to transition from the r sound to the flap t sound like on the words "party" or "started." However, I could pronounce the words "part" and "start" just fine. When I try saying party or started, I notice how the r doesn't sound right.

This might sound very simplistic. I would start with the word "par" and then add the word "tee" at the end. PAR tee. For the second, I would start with the word "star" and then add "ted" at the end. STAR ted.
