question about using plural noun after 'no other' in a comparative sentence

Hello~~ I need your help~
I am wondering if we can use this sentence 'No other students are taller than Eric' instead of 'Eric is the tallest student'?

"No other student is taller than Eric" would be better. If only one other student was taller than Eric, then in one sense your sentence would be wrong because it refers to plural 'students'.

PS: What do ~~ and ~ mean?

Those two sentences are not quite the same.

"No other student is/students are taller than Eric."
This could mean that some student(s) may be the same height as Eric!

"Eric is the tallest student."
No student is as tall as Eric.
