Numinnex, your click on 'Thanks' obviated the need for a new post.

Additionally, Please note that a better title would have been Youtube has blocked my video.

Extract from the Posting Guidelines:

'Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.'

Note the correct capitalisation of "YouTube" (a brand name).

Why does the word "youtube" not need the word "the" ?

I think this is because 'YouTube' is a name, but I am not a teacher.

It is a proper noun, the actual name of the website. It's the same for all websites.

I saw it on Google.
I watched a video on YouTube.

I can't get into Hotmail.

You have a 'the' before names like the USA and the UK though.

I think 'the' is used below because there is an 's' after the names, but I am not a teacher.
The Netherlands. The Philippines. The Bahamas.

I think 'the Bahamas' is also plural according to the following, but I am not a teacher.
'The Bahamas... is an island country of the Lucayan Archipelago consisting of more than 700 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean.'── quoted from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bahamas

But the "Bahamas" is collection of many islands. I consider it to be plural.

That is because the official names of these countries are descriptions of what they are.

[STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] America, the United States of America
[STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] Great Britain, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
[STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] China, the People's Republic of China
[STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] Germany, the Federal Republic of Germany

I think that the Bahamas may be unusual because the name refers separately to both the country as a whole, and to all the islands.

"The designation of "Bahamas" can refer to either the country or the larger island chain that it shares with the Turks and Caicos Islands".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bahamas

Therefore:
Singular: The Bahamas = the country as a whole officially known as "the Commonwealth of the Bahamas".
Plural: The Bahamas = the more than 700 islands which are part of the Lucayan [or Bahama] Archipelago.

I must admit though, that the Gambia has me totally foxed!

Update: It looks like the Gambia is so called because it is very narrow and totally follows the course of the Gambia River.

I think "The Bahamas" is analogous to "The Philippines" and "The Netherlands".

I agree.

Even though the official name is used for the country as a single unit, that name itself hints at the fact that it is derived from being the union of multiple islands.

"the Commonwealth of the Bahamas".

"British interest began in 1629 when Charles I granted Robert Heath, attorney general of England, territories in America including “Bahama and all other Isles and Islands lying southerly there...."

The name Bahamas is derived from either the Taino ba ha ma ("big upper middle land"), which was a pronoun for the region used by the indigenous Amerindians,[SUP][ [/SUP]while other theories suggest it derives from the Spanish baja mar ("shallow water or sea" or "low tide") reflecting the shallow waters of the area. Alternatively it may originate from Guanahani, a local name of unclear meaning .
None of 'Taino ba ha ma', 'baja mar' and 'Guanahani' has an 's', so I think the 's' in 'Bahamas' is not derived from them and thus denotes plurality, but I am not a teacher.
