How should I write, The led goes on

Hi,
English is not my native language so I need help.
I have to write guidance (electronics related), but I don't know how to tell the user that the LED should have lit (if you understand me)
This is a part of what I have written:

Please press the BUTTON and then press ENTER. (The green LED should lit)

What bothers me is mainly what's inside the brackets The green LED should lit or should have lit or should go on. Any advices?
Further in this guidance I have to warn the user that the same LED should have gone off (not lighting any more).
How should I structure my sentences:

The green LED should go ON?
The green LED should go OFF?

Make sure that when you write the final copy, you write LED, and not led.

LED stands for light-emitting diode, which is another source of light. I think you call it "LED light" (liike you call incandescent light or fluorescent light) and not just "LED".
"Turning on and off" implies switching the light on and off whereas when you say "the light goes off", something else causes it to go off by itself.

Of course *something* turns it on. Likely a computer that has been programmed to do so.

You don't need to explicitly name the actor when you say that something "turns on." All we're asking someone to do is verify if an LED has turned on or off.

No. I wouldn't use that, it suggests that the light extinguishes.

I would probably say "The light should go green" and "The light should go out" (on the assumption that the light has no colour at all when it's off).
