Dear All,

Can you explain to me what is the likely British dialect used in the attached extract. Especially, I have problems with understanding the word "lifetime", which is on the srt. The extract is from a British movie full of British slang. Than you very much.

The speaker is Scottish- the novel is set in Edinburgh.

Thank you. Please give me an advice on how to deal with understanding the word "lifetime" from the speach given that it is extremely different from what I used to encounter. What should be a starting point. Maybe you can give me a transcription of this word following the way the speaker said on the tape. Many thanks.

Yes, it's a Scot speaking.

Sorry, I don't hear "lifetime." I speak American English and only understand fragments of what he's saying.

Robin Williams, the American comedian, had a routine about what Scots sound like to Americans:

Scottish to Americans

PS: Note the differences between the spelling of speech and speak.
