[Grammar] Preposition ‘against’ usage

I ran into the sentence:
We have stored enough firewood against the winter.
Isn’t it more natural to say
We have stored enough firewood for the winter.

Good question!

The second is more common, but both are absolutely fine.

They are not opposites. The sense of the first is that the wood will will protect against the cold.
